Mauritius is again the stage for sporting excellence

Any significant sporting event requires the co-operation of a number of key parties and the MCB Tour Championship is no different. In 2023, Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), Constance Hotels, Resorts and Golf, Air Mauritius, and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) have once again combined their expertise and resources to host the season-ending event on the Legends Tour.

Indeed, the tournament being staged on the aptly-named Legend course at Belle Mare Plage in order to round off the year on the seniors’ circuit is now established as one of the most glamorous golf events of the year. It was back in 2009 that Constance Belle Mare Plage first began its affiliation with the European Senior Tour, now known as the Legend Tour, before in 2018 sister hotel Constance Lemuria on the island of Praslin in Seychelles played host for the first time.

It was in that year that the Tour, in collaboration with Mauritius Commercial Bank, not only hosted the MCB Tour Championship but it also became the climax to the Legends Tour’s season. Now, MCB also sponsors the order of merit race, the MCB Road to Mauritius. The partnership between these key stakeholders is a potent one; Constance Hotels & Resorts provides the venues and hospitality services; the Legends Tour brings professional golfers and organises the tournaments, MCB offers sponsorship – this year raised to an impressive $1,000,000 – while Air Mauritius and MTPA offers crucial logistical support.

This loyal affiliation has offered Constance Hotels & Resorts the opportunity to position Mauritius and the Seychelles as golf destinations as well as welcoming legendary golfers and superstar names from other sports to our properties and to the three 18-hole golf courses in the Constance group. We have welcomed so far golf legends such as Sam Torrance, Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie from Scotland, Tom Lehman from the US, David Frost from South Africa, Ian Woosman from Wales, Costantino Rocca from Italy, Thomas Bjorn from Denmark and Paul McGinley from Ireland.

The partnership has enabled Mauritius and Seychelles to host these high-profile events and as a result enhanced the prestige and global recognition of the golf courses at Constance Hotels & Resorts as well as positioning Mauritius and the Seychelles as premier golf destinations. The events demonstrate Constance Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to offering high-quality, luxury experiences as well as excellence in sports and hospitality.

The unwavering support of the key stakeholders has been instrumental in making the event a remarkable success year after year, which in turn promotes Mauritius as a golfing paradise. The aim at Constance Belle Mare Plage, with its stunning beaches and a variety of dining and leisure activities, is to create an environment where golfers, fans, and families can come together and create lasting memories, all within the warm embrace of Mauritian hospitality. Recently named the Indian Ocean's Best Golf Hotel at the World Golf Awards, since the inaugural championship over a decade ago, Constance Hotels & Resorts have witnessed not only the growth of the tournament but also the evolution of Mauritius into a renowned golf destination.

That transformation reflects Constance Hotels & Resorts’ dedication to provide not just a venue but also an unforgettable experience that combines the spirit of competition within the luxury and beauty of our resorts.

This 12th edition of the MCB Tour Championship promises to be the most exciting yet, with the MCB Road to Mauritius title, the Barry Lane rookie of the year award and The Celebrity Series all up for grabs as well as the tournament itself. Stars from the sports and entertainment world – such as football icons Robbie Fowler, Teddy Sheringham, Glenn Hoddle and Gianfranco Zola as well as legendary cricketer James Anderson, ex-F1 world champion Damon Hill and musicians Bryan McFadden and Locksmith Rudimental – are adding an extra layer of enthusiasm to this year's championship.
The Legend, the first PGA-approved course on Mauritius, opened in 1994 and will be the host for the MCB Tour Championship while the Links,
which opened in 2002 will host one round of the Celebrity Series.
Constance Hotels & Resorts’ third course, Lemuria in the Seychelles, opened in 2000 on the island of Praslin. Bordered by the crystal clear waters of the Praslin beach, it is the only 18-hole golf course in the Seychelles.
Both Constance Belle Mare Plage and Constance Lemuria are ranked within the top 35 golf resorts in the world in the benchmark Golf World UK list.
